Western Bundibugyo United Farmers Development Association (WEBUFADA) is an NGO/CBO which started in 2005 with the main intention/ objective of bridging the middleman's gap who was exploiting the farmers by offering them miserable prices for their produce as vanilla and cocoa. When we started the organization cocoa was at shs. 500 to 800 conventional cocoa our intervention into the cocoa business, the organization management did a lot of advocacy and lobbing for Bundibugyo farmers since 2005 and in 2006-2007 we got a fair trade vanilla buyer from Uganda export promotion board who raised vanilla in the district from shs.2,000 to shs.10,000 per kilogram and also attracted to Bundibugyo a cocoa company called Olam Uganda limited which raised cocoa prices from 500 shs to 3,500 shs in 2008-2009. As of now WEBUFADA has a total number of 752 registered farmers with whom the Association is pursuing a fair trade certificate which we hope to attain in 2015.
