Tuesday, September 21, 2004 Interfax Yukos' oil export to China continues
Although Yukos has said it would "temporarily" suspend its oil exports to China, information obtained by Interfax indicates oil transportation from Russia to the fast developing country is continuing.
On September 20, a Yukos spokesman told Interfax that the company's executive board had made a decision during the weekend to suspend oil exports to the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China's largest oil company. Yukos was to due to export 1 mln tons of oil to CNPC before the end of the year, at a monthly rate of nearly 400,000 tons.
"Yukos's transport expenses and customs payments total USD 150 to USD 170 per ton. The company currently has limited access to its accounts and cannot bear such expenses," the spokesman explained.
